Southerly Aspect

11th December 2015 - 6th March 2016
Hosted by Southland Museum and Art Gallery

Anderson Park Art Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of work from their collection that focuses on Murihiku, the south of Aotearoa New Zealand. The exhibition will be hosted by the Southland Museum and Art Gallery Niho O Te Taniwha over the summer season, opening on Friday 11 December and running until Sunday 6 March.

Manager/Curator Stephen Davies has selected fifty works from the Anderson Park Art Gallery’s collection for this exhibition. Each artwork has an intrinsic link to the south. For some, the work has been inspired by this southern region - its landscape, the people who live within it, the seas that surround or the lakes and waterways that thread through the fertile plains and majestic mountains. For others, it is the artist who created the artwork, who has either come from Murihiku, or has come to call this land home. The result is an exhibition that conveys a broad understanding of Murihiku’s history, interpreted through the artistic lens.
